As many of you know our little Afton is frequently sad, and she's quite passionate about her sadness. Like her Mom, nothing is a little bit, she likes to let you know exactly how she feels so it's absolutely heart wrenching when she cries, and insanely glorious when she smiles. I was so impressed with her good mood yesterday afternoon, especially because this was right after she woke up........usually a sad time. I had to film it because poor Justin mostly gets the sad Afton, but here's just a little more evidence that our baby can be adorably happy too!

AFTON LOVES YOU(TAH)!!
Thanks to my amazing Moms Afton and I took a last minute trip to the homeland because Timmy and family was in town which is to special a treat to pass up. She was a dream on the plane, both ways. My favorite was at the terminal before we came home in SLC she gathered a crowd of these cute Japanese kids who spoke very little english and were going absolutely insane for her - they were just ohhing and awwing like never before and if she smiled or yawned or sneezed they went nuts! They were taking pictures of her and calling all their friends over and one of them kept saying..."cute - tie" like it's two words. It was super rad and I was eating it up. The first night I got there we went to see Natani and Jami and Afton was being adorable. Since Jami is the official photographer of the Dushane Dames she got some amazing pics of my super sweetheart - please enjoy!
It's a GIRL!!
I know this seems like a tardy announcement, but apparently it needs to be said because I can't believe how many people think my little love angel of joy and beauty is a BOY! It's really starting to tick me off. Those giant bows are just not for me, they never stay straight and they look like a weird satellite on top of her sweet head, I know they are all the rave, and I'm not mad at you if you use them, but are they the only indicator of whether a baby is a boy or girl? Little hints like skirts, dresses, pink, purple, flowers and butterflies don't seem to communicate gender, but as I learned today........EITHER DOES THE BOW! I bought some very subtle small bows at Target and have resisted using them for the most part but one matched her little striped pink shirt and cargo skirt outfit so well today I just threw it on for fun. We did our errands in the stroller walking down to the bank, the UPS store and the drug store for this and that. On our way back while waiting at an intersection this old lady with some grocery bags said........."is it a boy?" - SHE WAS WEARING A PINK BOW ON HER HEAD!!! Of course I said..."nope, she's a girl (as indicated by the pink stripes skirt and PINK BOW ON HER HEAD!). The lady said "oh..she looks like a boy"...........are you serious dude? I wanted so badly to kick her in the knee cap or say something mean like....so do you, but the flowers on your shirt tipped me off! The cute smiling picture above is what Afton is wearing today so you can judge for yourself. There's no way I'm such a blindly dotting Mom that I'm in denial about how much my girl looks like a boy..NO WAY!

CHART TOPPING!!
Afton is at the TOP OF THE CHARTS - just as I expected. She's 12.10 lbs - 97% for her age and she's 24 inches - 90% for her age! I swear she's bigger every time she wakes up - it's super awesome. As previously mentioned Afton is a perfect and adorable fussy fussy baby, she stays awake usually from 4 to about 10 and is very unhappy that whole time! (as evidenced in these video's) The doctor has diagnosed her with serious gas (that had to come from Dad because you all know I never have gas) and acid reflux. We started some medications yesterday to help with both of these and so far things seem to be going better for her. She was really happy last night and even gave me some smiles, but the light was bad and my camera sucks so the smile pictures look a little psycho, but I'm posting them anyway to help balance out the sad girl video's I'm posting. I just had to share that frown, I kind of love it. By the way, that is a "social" frown, just as significant to me as a "social" smile, I mean, why aren't they equally celebrated? It's easy to see she wants you to know she's sad with that frown just as much as she would want you to know she's happy with a smile!

Watch out world!!
Afton is officially getting out of the house on the regular now-a-days! We're finally getting a little more confident with how you have a newborn and a life. It was such a dream to have all the family here for her blessing Sunday, Care King (Caroline King v1.0) stayed with us a few days and was patient with such adventures as first trip to Target and Trader Joe's with the baby. Isn't there somewhere I can take a class on how to do this stuff....like carry a carseat without looking like a super awkward dork-bomb? I must say...the Trader Joe's experience was a little disastrous because I couldn't figure out where to put her so eventually we just put her carseat in the cart and carried a basket for the groceries, but Target was a success! She's been out to eat a couple times now and has been basically a dream. This is not to say she's not a fussy baby....she is. Don't get me wrong, as you can see from the pictures she's an absolute perfect angel, who lets you know when she's not happy with some very well developed lungs....for a long time...most days...but we love her!
